This week, I'm leaving you with some slicer tricks I wish I knew when I was

first starting with Power BI! These tricks are specific for text based slicers, there are a few more tricks you can do if your slicer is for dates or numeric values... Maybe something for a another Nano Tip!

Here are some tricks you can use with Power BI slider:

  1. Use the Sync Slicers feature: This allows you to link the slicers across multiple pages and reports, making it easier to update them.
  2. Customize the slider: You can change the font size, color, and format of the slider to make it more visually appealing and user-friendly.
  3. Use the Play Axis feature: This feature allows you to create an animation effect that shows changes over time. You can customize the duration of the animation and the intervals between each data point.
  4. Add a reference line: You can add a reference line to the slider to highlight a specific value or threshold. This is useful for visualizing trends or comparing data points.
  5. Use the Relative Date Slicer: This slicer allows you to filter data based on relative dates, such as “last 7 days” or “next 30 days”. This is useful for quickly changing the time frame of your data without having to manually adjust the slider.
  6. Use the Advanced Filter: This feature allows you to filter data based on multiple criteria, such as values within a range or specific text strings. This is useful for refining your data analysis and getting more precise insights.
  7. Use the Drillthrough feature: This allows you to create a drillthrough page that shows more detailed information about a specific data point. You can link the drillthrough page to the slider, so users can easily access the additional information.
