This feature was first enabled for OneDrive in Microsoft 365, and we’re pleased to share that you can now request files directly into a SharePoint document library. A files request can start from a link in your email signature, a link in a chat, a hyperlink that’s a part of your intake or onboarding processes with customers, clients, and vendors. For the recipient, it’s a simple web interface to upload a file and submit it. And for you, the file(s) arrives with their information and knowledge that they had no access to your SharePoint document libraries or other sites – just the ability to securely and efficiently upload to where you directed them to.

External file requests for SharePoint document libraries allow users to securely share documents with people outside of the organization. A user can create a file request and send a link to a non-employee to upload documents. The uploaded documents are stored in the SharePoint document library and the user can manage and retrieve the documents from there. This feature provides a secure and efficient way of sharing documents with external parties, eliminating the need for emailing large files or using an unsecured third-party file sharing service. Additionally, the file request link can be customized with organizational branding.
