Microsoft is enabling Windows 11 users to uninstall more built-in apps for a more personalized user experience.

Microsoft is planning to allow Windows 11 users the ability to uninstall more built-in apps, such as the Camera app, the recently discontinued Cortana app, the Photos app, the People app, and the Remote Desktop client.

This new testing build is currently available to Canary Channel testers.
Microsoft provides these so-called “inbox apps” pre-installed with each copy of Windows 11.
As a practice Microsoft has gradually allowed users greater flexibility to uninstall more apps.
Although not a significant space-saving measure, providing the option for complete uninstallation ensures a more personalized Windows experience.

  • Windows 11 allows more built-in app uninstallation
  • New testing build available for Canary Channel testers
  • Included are the Camera app, Cortana app, Photos app, People app, and Remote Desktop client
  • Inbox apps pre-installed with Windows 11 can be removed freely
  • Complete uninstallation provides more personalized user experience

Uninstalling More Built-In Apps in Windows 11

Microsoft continues to increase user flexibility by enabling the uninstallation of more built-in 'Inbox' apps in Windows 11. Previously, restrictions were placed on the uninstallation of many built-in apps. However, this move indicates a shift towards more customization and personalization, empowering users to modify their Windows 11 environment according to their needs.

Learn about Microsoft will let you uninstall more built-in Windows 11 apps soon for less bloat

Microsoft will soon allow Windows 11 users to uninstall a range of preinstalled apps, such as the Camera app, the recently discontinued Cortana app, the Photos app, the People app, and the Remote Desktop (MSTSC) client. This feature is expected to make Windows 11 feel less bloated and will give users greater control over what they have installed. The apps that can be uninstalled are not large, so users should not expect to save lots of space, but having the option to uninstall them completely should make Windows 11 more customizable. To uninstall the apps, users will need to go to the Settings app and navigate to the Apps & Features section. From there, they will be able to select the apps they want to uninstall. Users should be aware that uninstalling an app could cause the functionality of other apps to be affected, so they should proceed with caution. Microsoft is gradually allowing users to uninstall more of the built-in apps that come with Windows 11, so users should keep an eye out for new updates that could contain further options.
