In this video I share a quick tip which can be used when you want to update values in a SharePoint list containing mandatory fields.

When using the SharePoint Update Item action in Microsoft Power Automate it forces you to enter values for mandatory columns. For lists with many columns this can be a long process if you only want to update a few fields.

The Update Item Trick

More about PowerAutomate and Sharepoint

Microsoft Power Automate is a powerful automation platform that allows you to easily update values in a SharePoint list. It can be used to trigger an automated flow that updates values in a list when an item is added, changed, deleted, or modified.

Power Automate provides a wide range of actions to update values in a SharePoint list. You can use the “Update Item” action to update a single item or multiple items in the list. The “Set Field” action can be used to set the value of a specific field for the list item. Additionally, the “Update Multiple Items” action can be used to update multiple records in the list at once.

Power Automate also provides the ability to create conditions to trigger the flow. This allows you to set up rules to determine when the automated flow should be triggered. For example, you could set up a condition to trigger the flow when an item is created, modified, or deleted.

Power Automate also provides an “Apply to Each” action which can be used to loop through a collection of items and update each item. This is an efficient way to update multiple items in a SharePoint list at once.

Finally, Power Automate also provides the ability to schedule the flow to run at a certain time. This can be used to periodically update values in the list on a regular schedule.
