Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25905

 

The new Windows 11 Insider Canary preview build 25905 brings several changes and improvements. The major development is the inclusion of Rust, a programming language known for its security and reliability, in the Windows Kernel. Initially, it implements only a few critical kernel features, specifically, a new GDI region. Although the implementation is still at an early stage, Microsoft aims to further incorporate Rust in the kernel. 

 

Another significant change is the deprecation of Arm32 UWP applications for Windows on Arm in this build. Post-upgrade, installed Arm32 apps will not launch, but this does not impact Arm64 applications. Users can manage this by updating apps before the OS upgrade and reinstalling incompatible applications from the Microsoft Store after the upgrade. 

 

 

This build also brings improvements to Windows Local Administrator Password Solution (LAPS), particularly with its Post Authentication Actions (PAA) feature. A new setting allows PAA to terminate individual processes launched in an over-the-shoulder elevation scenario. 

Moreover, Windows has updated its color font format to COLRv1, allowing for the display of richer, 3D-like emojis. The compatibility issue with the original Zune drivers on Windows 11 has also been fixed in this build. 

 

However, the build presents new issues as well, including non-availability for ASUS devices or PCs with ASUS motherboards, and potential loss of network connectivity for ethernet-connected devices. 

Microsoft has released a new version of the Microsoft Store for all Windows Insider Program channels alongside this build.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 25905 is the latest version released to the Canary Channel. It contains several new features, including the return of some features that were temporarily removed with the switch to ZN_RELEASE. Insiders can download the ISO here [https://aka.ms/wipISO]. This build also includes changes to the desktop watermark, allowing it to show the branch name RS_PRERELEASE. Documentation for this build is limited, and only the most significant and highly impactful known issues will be documented. New features available in this build include:

• Updates to the Edge browser that make it faster and more secure.

• Improvements to the Windows Hello facial recognition system that make it easier to use.

• Improvements to the Windows Ink workspace that make it easier to use.

• Updates to the Microsoft Store that make it easier to find and install apps and services.

• Updates to the Action Center that make it easier to manage notifications.

• Improvements to the Windows File Explorer that make it easier to find and manage files.

• Updates to Cortana that make it easier to use.
