Excel: Create AI Dashboards with Copilot

Key insights

• Edit with Copilot in Excel can build an AI dashboard from a simple instruction; when you type the prompt "create a dashboard", Copilot generates a default dashboard that relies on formulas to produce visuals and metrics.
Watch outputs carefully because the tool favors formula-driven layouts by default.
• The walkthrough video shows how the feature can produce a usable dashboard with minimal typing; the assistant creates charts, summaries, and layout automatically after the single prompt.
This makes rapid prototyping fast and easy for common reporting needs.
• The creator tried using Pivots and slicers with the same prompt flow, but the automation failed to set them up correctly in this case.
Expect limits when you ask Copilot to implement interactive Excel components like pivot tables and slicers.
• Note the naming change: Edit with Copilot is the new name for what used to be called Copilot Agent Mode.
The video was recorded under the old name and includes added graphics to show the updated interface.
• Timestamps help viewers jump to key parts: 00:00 shows creating dashboards and 02:51 covers trying pivots and slicers (where it fails).
Use those markers to review successes and limitations quickly.
• Practical tip: use Copilot to speed up initial dashboard creation but verify results and be aware of the tool’s limitation with advanced Excel features; you may need to finish complex tasks manually or rebuild pivots and slicers by hand.
This keeps dashboards accurate and interactive for end users.
