In the latest public preview, Microsoft has introduced Scoped Search for Viva Connections in Teams. Changes being made will improve the search experience within the Viva Connections app, making searches more simplified. When using Viva Connections and clicking the search box in Teams, users will now see text saying “Search in Viva Connections”. Existing suggestions such as chats and people will continue displaying, clicking these will direct users back to the corresponding Teams experience.
The search suggestions now also display two new lines under the search box: the first (default option) to search in Viva Connections, and the second to search the rest of Teams. Users choosing the first suggestion will be directed to a workplace search resembling the one used in company intranet portals. However, those who want to access the Teams search results page, can select the second suggestion.
This feature is currently available to all Teams Public Preview and M365 Targeted Release users using the classic version of Teams. Activation is automatic, users can simply head to Viva Connections and use the search box as usual. This change impacts the Teams Desktop or Teams on the web and is expected to extend to the “New Teams App” in upcoming months. Plans are also in place to bring a similar functionality to Teams mobile experiences.
As for the existing experience, users will by default start to search within the Viva Connections search experience rather than the Teams search experience. Yet, they can still revert to a Teams search by using the option presented in the list of suggestions under the search box while typing. To enable Teams client for the public preview, users can select Public preview or Targeted release.
Scoped Search for Viva Connections is designed to enhance user-friendliness by making search operations within Teams more straightforward. The integration also promotes efficient team collaboration and communication within a single unified platform. This update reflects Microsoft's commitment to continually improving user experience and productivity in their software. The platform's flexibility and the ability to adapt to the needs of different users increases the value and efficiency of Teams for business users worldwide.
Microsoft is introducing a new feature to the Viva Connections app in Teams called Scoped Search, which will make it easier for users to search within the Viva Connections app. When a user clicks into the search box in Teams, they will see a message that says "Search in Viva Connections" (or the name chosen for the Viva Connections app). Suggestions will appear below the search box, with two lines of options: one to search in Viva Connections and one to search in the rest of Teams.
Choosing the first option will take users to a workplace search experience, while choosing the second will take them to the search results page of Teams. This feature is available to all Teams Public Preview and M365 Targeted Release users who are using the classic version of Teams and no action is required to enable it. It is currently available for the current version of Teams Desktop or Teams on the Web, with plans to bring a similar experience to Teams mobile in the future. This feature changes the default search experience in Viva Connections, allowing users to search within the app rather than the Teams search experience.
