Microsoft Purview Data Classification: Sensitive Info Types is a feature that enables organizations to classify and protect sensitive information stored in the cloud. It allows organizations to define and create custom labels for different categories of sensitive information, such as financial data, healthcare records, and personally identifiable information (PII). In addition, the tool provides automated classification of data based on labels and other criteria such as content and context. The feature also provides visibility into the locations of sensitive data, enabling organizations to take proactive measures to protect it. Purview Data Classification can be used to ensure compliance with data protection regulations such as GDPR and CCPA.

Sensitive labels in Microsoft 365 are a feature that is part of Microsoft's Information Protection infrastructure. They are used to classify and protect business data while ensuring its usability. Here's a more detailed breakdown:

1.  Classification: Sensitive labels allow organizations to classify data across the company based on sensitivity. This could range from 'Public' to 'Highly Confidential'. This classification is embedded in the file itself and remains with the file, no matter where it goes.

2.  Protection: After data has been classified, protection policies can be applied based on the sensitivity of the data. For example, data classified as 'Highly Confidential' could be encrypted and access could be limited to certain users or groups. Other protection capabilities include watermarks, header and footer protections, and more.

3.  Retention and Deletion: Sensitive labels can also be used to enforce retention policies on the data. For instance, data can be automatically deleted or archived after a certain period of time, depending on its sensitivity level.

4.  Monitoring and Remediation: By using sensitive labels, organizations can monitor how classified data is being used and can take corrective actions if necessary. If a sensitive document is shared with unauthorized users, for example, an alert can be triggered and remediation actions can be taken.

These labels can be applied manually by users or automatically by admins using criteria like content inspection, context, and conditions.

In conclusion, sensitive labels in Microsoft 365 help organizations maintain control over sensitive data, no matter where it is stored or with whom it is shared, which is crucial for compliance with regulations and for preventing data leaks.
