Key Differences Between the Power BI Editions

Power BI had two editions when it first debuted in the summer of 2015. Both free and expert. The free edition served as a learning tool for Power BI and allowed lone users to build and share dashboards and reports for personal use. Sharing reports with others, connecting to various on-premises datasets, and establishing automatic refresh for these datasets were all possible with the professional edition.

Six years later, Power BI has undergone significant change. In order to support a variety of use cases, from individual dashboarding to enterprise-wide data warehousing scenarios, both cloud and on-premises editions are currently offered with differing levels of capacity.
