Boost your business productivity through unparalleled Microsoft Expert solutions.

Live captions in Microsoft Teams offer real-time subtitles for meeting participants, making interactions more accessible. This feature automatically generates captions based on spoken words, which appear on screen as text.

Now, with the addition of a toggle switch for profanity filtering, users have the option to turn the feature on or off. This provides greater control over the use of the out-of-the-box profanity filtering capability, allowing users to view meeting dialogue as it is spoken or to filter out any potentially offensive language.

Available to everyone in Public Preview channel.

Users now have a new option to turn off the profanity filtering and be able to see the captions as is. They can control this option via Settings in Teams > Captions and transcripts > Filter profane words in meeting captions.

To turn live captions on, join a meeting or start a call. Select the More icon in the meeting toolbar > Language and speech > Turn on live captions. To change the spoken language, click the three dots in the live captions pane at the bottom of the screen.

What is Live captions in Teams meetings

Live captions in Teams meetings is a feature that provides real-time subtitles or captions for spoken words during a Teams meeting. It helps meeting participants to follow along with the conversation and better understand what is being said, especially for those who may have hearing impairments, are not native speakers, or are in a noisy environment.

The captions are automatically generated based on the spoken words of the meeting participants and appear in real-time on the meeting screen. This feature can improve accessibility, increase engagement, and enhance overall communication during Teams meetings.
