In this video we look at the ability to have a percentage mix of spot and non-spot as part of the VMSS Flexible profile. Looking for content on a particular topic? Search the channel. If I have something it will be there!
A VMSS Flex Spot Mix is a feature of Microsoft Azure that allows you to optimize your virtual machine (VM) costs by using a combination of Azure Spot VMs and pay-as-you-go VMs in a single virtual machine scale set (VMSS).
Azure Spot VMs are spare Azure capacity that are available at a significantly discounted price compared to regular pay-as-you-go VMs. These Spot VMs are ideal for non-critical workloads that can tolerate interruptions and be quickly restarted elsewhere.
With a VMSS Flex Spot Mix, you can specify the percentage of Spot VMs and pay-as-you-go VMs you want to use in your VMSS. This allows you to balance cost savings with workload resiliency and performance. For example, you could choose to use 50% Spot VMs and 50% pay-as-you-go VMs to achieve a 50% cost savings on VMs while still ensuring that at least 50% of your VMs are always available.
Overall, VMSS Flex Spot Mix is a great way to save costs on VMs without sacrificing workload resiliency and performance.
