Copilot Studio: Capture Rich Telemetry

Key insights

• Application Insights: Paste the agent’s Azure Application Insights connection string under Settings → Advanced to send agent messages, topic triggers, and custom events to Azure for analysis.
  
• Logged messages: Telemetry can include incoming and outgoing messages and events so you can trace conversations and see which topics fired during sessions.
  
• Custom telemetry: Add explicit telemetry nodes inside topics to record decisions, prompts, or query results and capture the intermediate signals you care about for debugging.
  
• Limitations: The system does not automatically expose full internal reasoning, hidden orchestration, or every retrieval step — log those details yourself if you need them.
  
• Enablement steps: Open the agent Settings → Advanced, paste the connection string, enable desired logging options (activity or sensitive properties only when compliant), then save and publish to start telemetry flow.
  
• Kusto Query Language (KQL): Use KQL to query customEvents, filter errors like name == "OnErrorLog", find conversation IDs, set alerts, and build dashboards for long-term monitoring and alerts.
