Microsoft 365 Copilot: Outlook Upgrades

Key insights

• Microsoft 365 Copilot, Wave 3, and agentic experiences
Wave 3 moves Outlook from single-shot prompts to agents that act for you across email and calendar. The rollout began in February–March 2026 and focuses on deeper, automated actions inside Outlook.

• Edit with Copilot and Copilot Chat
You can draft, edit, and send emails directly from the Copilot chat pane. Real-time editing removes copy‑paste steps and keeps message formatting intact.

• Schedule meetings, calendar widget, and Calendar Instructions
Copilot suggests optimal times based on availability, time zones, and working hours, and it can book rooms and draft invites from a chat flow. Automated RSVP handling streamlines incoming invites.

• Prioritize My Inbox and AI-powered email prioritization
AI surfaces important messages and reduces clutter so you see critical items first. This helps you focus without constant manual triage.

• Copilot Studio and custom agents
Organizations can build custom agents to automate business workflows inside Outlook, such as updating records or inserting meeting materials, while using Microsoft 365 data as context.

• Practical benefits, time savings, and limitations
Expect faster drafting, fewer app switches, and better meeting prep thanks to contextual summaries and documents. Early users should note some features are still maturing and may require admin setup and governance for responsible AI use.
