Master govern and monitor usage with our Microsoft Power Virtual Agents: Excellence Center Kit. Easily build sophisticated bots!

The recent release of the Center of Excellence (CoE) Starter Kit aims at aiding various organizations to efficiently govern their usage of Power Virtual Agents, an AI-powered low code solution from Microsoft that lets users swiftly build advanced-grade bots.

The CoE Starter Kit is a beneficial compilation of tools and components purposed to facilitate organizations in crafting an effectual strategy to embrace and manage Microsoft's Power Platform. A concentration is placed on Power Apps, Power Automate, Power Pages, and Power Virtual Agents.

The newly revamped version of the Starter Kit has already featured an inventory of bots across different environments.

Some of the new capabilities added in the release include letting the administrators:

  • Keep a check on the count of bot engagements per bot over time with daily aggregates.
  • Assign a count of conversations for every environment via the environment add-ons.
  • Stay informed via capacity email alerts as environment add-ons approach (greater than 80%) or surpass the given count of conversations.
  • Avail an all-inclusive dashboard for process tracking of the AI solution throughout their tenant in due course of time. In addition to this, a conversation consumption versus allocation overview is also available.
  • Recognize bots programmed through the newly available unified authoring canvas in public preview.

As administrators view individual bots, they can retrieve usage history. At the environment level, they can employ the 'Environment Add-on' record to set the allocated number of conversations.

When the conversation count goes around or over the monthly allocated number, an email alert is sent to the configured administrators. Here's more information about Power Virtual Agents.

The CoE Starter Kit, however, still does not support bots created under the context of the AI solution for Teams. This is due to these bots residing in the Dataverse for Teams environments, which is inaccessible from Power Automate that the Starter Kit uses for collection of the inventory data.

Note that the Power Platform is entirely supported by Microsoft, but the Starter Kit represents just examples of these features. If you encounter any issues with the CoE Starter Kit or Microsoft Power Platform, standard channels to contact Microsoft Support are available.

Learn about Power Virtual Agents: Guide to Govern, Monitor & Manage with Excellence Center Kit

The focus of this post is the 'Power Virtual Agents: Guide to Govern, Monitor and Manage' product from Microsoft's comprehensive AI solution suite. This product enables developers to create intricate bots swiftly and efficiently, benefitting organizations across various industries. For those interested in leveraging artificial intelligence or bot creation, Microsoft offers several illuminating courses such as Managing Microsoft Power Platform and Microsoft Power Automate.

The functionality of the bots is improved through the December 2022 release of the COE Starter Kit from Microsoft which provides an array of components designed to aid organizations in successfully adopting Microsoft's Power Platform. The significance of the COE Starter Kit lies in the numerous enhancements it brings to the table, providing organizations with the opportunity to advance their existing bots through better governance and control.

The release introduces new features for tenant administrators, such as tracking conversations per bot over time and receiving capacity notifications when conversation add-ons are close to or exceed their quota. Administrators can also get a comprehensive usage dashboard of the AI solution usage in their tenant over time on top of the ongoing conversation consumption versus allocation.

Another conversational AI becomes highlighted in the starter kit's latest release, specifically, one with the new unified authoring canvas, a feature that developers will find particularly advantageous. It allows for detailed tracking of a bot's usage history, including a monthly breakdown of conversations.

On top of this progress, the COE Starter Kit also includes a feature termed as the 'Environment Add-on' which allows admins to set the amount of allocated conversations for specific environments. This allocation might not be technically enforced but acts as a trigger for capacity notifications when an environment reaches or exceeds its monthly conversation limit.

However, it's worth noting that the current version of the COE starter kit does not cover bots created in the context of the streamlined bots Microsoft Teams app. That's because such bots reside in separate environments, known as Dataverse environments for Teams, consequently excluding external access from Power Automate.

Additionally, features such as 'billed sessions,' typically available as part of bot analytics, no longer exist in the case of COE Starter Kit. This feature has been replaced by the 'number of conversation transcript records' to enable more accurate and consistent analysis and billing.

In terms of deployment, Microsoft provides comprehensive instructions to guide users, ensuring they benefit maximally from the conversational AI and its enhancements. Microsoft also offers support in case of issues concerning the core features in the Power Platform. Nevertheless, it's worth noting that while the COE Starter Kit is built using fully supported features and components, it itself is a sample implementation and so support related to the kit should be sought from the community.

In conclusion, the COE Starter Kit offers a range of features and improvements to better manage, monitor, and govern AI solutions from Microsoft. Knowledge of these updates and their application presents an excellent opportunity for those working within the tech industry or with a vested interest in AI and bot development.
