Skype for Business server, a legacy technology, will no longer be supported in Microsoft Teams Rooms for on-premises customers. The Skype for Business online service had been retired in 2021. It's announced that the support for Skype for Business server connections will end on October 1, 2023. The Teams Rooms for Windows' meeting mode options, 'Skype for Business only', 'Skype for Business and Microsoft Teams (default)' and 'Skype for Business (default) and Microsoft Teams' will be unavailable post this change. All Skype for Business related settings will also be removed from device settings and setup experience.
Earlier variants of Teams Rooms for Windows app also allowed for Skype for Business Server support. However, this feature will no longer be available. The earlier versions also offered an 'opt-out' option for the new experience which will be discarded as well. The Microsoft Teams online service has extended features of Skype for Business, bringing a modernized, intelligent, and collaborative platform. Migration to Microsoft Teams has been strongly recommended.

- Phone System will become available to all Teams users after the transition. Teams users can call to Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) and collaborate with virtually any telephony carrier using Direct Routing in the Phone System.
- The migration to Teams will be assisted for all stages of the upgrade journey. Microsoft also organizes free, interactive upgrade planning workshops.
- Microsoft may assist organizations using Skype for Business Online with their upgrade to Teams prior to the July 31, 2021 retirement of the service.
- Notifications regarding assisted upgrades will be sent to customers through Teams admin center and Microsoft 365 Message Center three months prior to the stipulated upgrade date.

- Skype for Business (default) and Microsoft Teams
