“When students today search the web, they are faced with a rapidly growing global repository that includes false and misleading information. Even students who’ve grown up with technology are often overwhelmed by the multitude of sources online, and it’s becoming more difficult to determine which information is trustworthy. One OECD study showed that only 10% of K-12 students can reliably distinguish fact from opinion, and in a 2021 U.S. study , nearly 96% of 3,500 students surveyed failed to identify a website’s connection to a biased party.”

Search Coach and Search Progress in Microsoft Teams is an innovative approach to information literacy that was developed by the Microsoft Education team. This approach provides students with a personalized learning experience designed to help them become better digital citizens. The program combines artificial intelligence (AI) technologies, such as natural language processing and machine learning, with human coaching from certified search coaches.

Through this combination of AI-driven technology and human coaching, Search Coach helps students develop their online research skills while also providing feedback on their progress over time. This can help teachers identify areas where more instruction may be needed or provide additional support for those who are struggling with specific topics. Additionally, educators have access to analytics that provide insights into individual student performance so they can tailor lessons accordingly.
