Microsoft has completely redesigned Teams to enhance its functionality on desktop computers and laptops.

“Microsoft is preparing to launch a new version of Microsoft Teams next month that has been rebuilt from the ground up to significantly improve its system resource usage on PCs and laptops. “

Microsoft is set to launch a new version of its collaboration platform, Microsoft Teams, which has been completely rebuilt to improve system resource usage on PCs and laptops. The new version, dubbed Teams 2.0 or 2.1, is expected to use 50% less memory, tax the CPU less, and improve battery life on laptops.

Microsoft has started testing the new client broadly inside the company, with plans to roll out a preview to Microsoft Teams users in March. This new app moves Teams away from Electron and to Microsoft’s Edge Webview2 technology, and also uses React, a JavaScript library, to improve the UI of Teams in the future.

While the new Teams experience has been integrated into Windows 11 for consumers, businesses have been using the older Teams client due to the amount of work involved in rebuilding the client.
