The company's history of acquisitions, including Great Plains Software, Navision, and Axapta, laid the foundation for Dynamics 365's diverse capabilities, ranging from sales and marketing to finance and supply chain management.</p><p>Despite the improvements, Microsoft recognized that not all code should be modernized due to the associated cost. The move to Azure was a complex process, but it enabled the incorporation of innovative AI features, such as the Dynamics 365 Copilot. This AI-powered tool assists users across business functions, reducing time spent on routine tasks.</p><p>Over time, the Dynamics 365 team has continued to evolve its architecture to take advantage of more cloud-native PaaS services, as required to launch new features and reduce the cost of delivering existing functionality. <br></p><h3>The Future of CRM</h3><p>Microsoft plans to continue modernizing Dynamics 365 on Azure, with a future shift towards Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) as the primary compute infrastructure and further enhancements in scalability and resiliency. A key focus will be the integration of generative AI, with potential applications such as digital contact centers supervised by human agents, offering scalability to eliminate customer wait times.</p><p>The company intends to keep infusing AI within Dataverse and Power Platform, enabling people to create, deploy, scale, and govern applications, workflows, and chatbots using natural language. This AI-assisted, low-code application development aims to democratize software creation and transform work, collaboration, and creation processes.</p><p>Microsoft anticipates that these deep investments in generative AI will accelerate the delivery of more intelligent, efficient, and user-friendly business applications. They believe the use of AI to automate tasks, provide suggestions, enable conversational interactions, and help people take action will significantly increase productivity. Reflecting on the journey, they wish they had started the move to Azure earlier, as it paved the way for these innovations.<br></p><p>Some examples include&#58;</p><p><br></p><ul><li>Leveraging a PaaS model based on Service Fabric, with VM Scale Sets for compute.</li><li>Implementing advanced concepts like shuffle&#160;<a data-cke-saved-href="https&#58;//learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/architecture/patterns/sharding" href="https&#58;//learn.microsoft.com/en-us/azure/architecture/patterns/sharding">sharding</a>&#160;for seamless and virtually infinite compute scale-out, multi-tenancy control, and sub-Geo fault isolation.</li><li>Expanding the data layer based on Azure SQL to incorporate Azure Cosmos DB and Azure Data Lake Storage—exposed via a single Dataverse API and a consistent programming and extensibility interface.</li><li>Adoption of additional PaaS services like Azure Logic Apps (for workflow), Azure Service Bus and Azure Event Hub (for eventing), and Azure API Management (for API connectivity).</li><li>Modern, scalable, digital contact center capabilities, including multichannel support for digital messaging and voice—achieved through Azure Communication Services.&#160;</li><li>Delivery of AI features via Azure Cognitive Services, Azure Machine Learning, and Azure Open AI.</li></ul><p><br></p><p><em>&quot;Dynamics 365 and the Power Platform are now innovating at the fastest pace in our history, and we were ready for the generative AI opportunity because of the investments we made back in 2017.
