Content Types allow you to group similar items together in a SharePoint Online site. For example, if you have many different types of documents uploaded to a library, such as Word documents, Excel spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations, creating content types will make it easier for users to find the right type of document they are looking for.

Content Types can also be used to add custom columns or metadata fields that apply only to certain type of files so that users can easily sort and filter through them. To create a new content type in SharePoint Online, go into the Site Settings page and select “Content Types” from the Web Designer Galleries section. From there you will be able to add new content types by clicking on “New” and entering all relevant information about your content type. You will then need to choose which libraries or lists this content type should appear in before saving it.
