Hello Windows Insiders, today we are releasing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 to the Dev Channel. August 2023 Bug Bash Coming Soon:

Microsoft has announced the release of Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 to the Dev channel. Alongside this, a Bug Bash is scheduled to commence on August 2nd, covering the latest features present in preview builds spanning the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels. Further details are to be provided in succeeding week's flight blog posts.

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 Released

Microsoft has released the Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 23511 for the Dev Channel. The company also announced an upcoming Bug Bash in August 2023, spanning the latest features available in preview builds across the Canary, Dev, and Beta Channels.

New Features

Windows Spotlight Enhancements

A single Windows Spotlight experience is rolling out for Windows Insiders in the Dev Channel, including features like full-screen image previews, information about each image, and a minimized experience. Users can enable the Windows Spotlight via desktop personalization settings or via Settings > Personalization > Background.

Camera Streaming Improvements

A new feature has been added to help with camera streaming issues. A pop-up dialogue will appear if a camera fails to start or if a camera shutter is closed, recommending the user to launch an automated troubleshooter.

Windows Copilot Preview

The Windows Copilot Preview has temporarily been removed for AAD (soon to be Microsoft Entra ID) managed Dev Channel users. The feature can be temporarily enabled via Group Policy Editor, and it's expected to be back in a future flight with Bing Chat for Enterprise support.

Start Menu Enhancements

AAD account users will now have a richer preview when hovering over files under "Recommended" on the Start menu. Thumbnails will not be available for all files initially, but an update will expand this feature. The Start menu also provides an option to quickly share cloud file recommendations.

Taskbar & System Tray Updates

Notifications will appear as a bell in the system tray, colorizing based on your system accent color when new notifications come in. The bell will be empty when there are no notifications. Notification counts are no longer shown.

Changes & Improvements

Several changes and improvements are included in the new build:

Performance improvements when sending a large number of files at once to the recycle bin in File Explorer.
Bugs causing crashes in Snap Layouts have been fixed and suggestions in Snap Layouts are being rolled out again.
The new Settings homepage, disabled previously due to bugs, is rolling out again.
Option to disable Phone Link altogether is being rolled out under Settings > Bluetooth & devices > Phone Link.

Fixes

Several issues have been fixed:

Copying and extraction speed of large archives in File Explorer.
Gibberish folder names issue when decompressing newly supported archive formats.
Context menu background in File Explorer appearing transparent.
Issue preventing apps from opening when selected inside a notification popup.
Unexpected notifications from an app named NotifyiconGeneratedAumid_*.
Multiple explorer.exe crashes impacting taskbar reliability.
Quick settings not opening when selecting network, volume, and battery icons in the system tray.
Issues with writing in the address box in Microsoft Edge (Ensure Edge is up-to-date).
